Wally Empson, age 74 years of the RM of Montcalm, MB, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at the Boundary Trails Health Centre.
Wally was born and raised in the RM of Montcalm on a farm near the Marais River. He attended high school in St. Jean, MB. Throughout his childhood he was very involved with the farm and with his horses. He began working off the farm in the coal mines of Thompson, MB. He attended Red River Community College and learned his trade as a painter. He enjoyed painting as well as other careers, including hardware sales, insurance broker, and magistrate.
He became a dad for the first time in 1979 (Shannon), then again in 1981 (Derek). In 2002 he married his best friend and love of his life Marlyn and gained two additional daughters Juliann and Kristin. His many years were filled with creating memories with his children and eventually grandchildren; they were the light of his world. He shared with them his loveable grumpiness, sarcastic sense of humour and his love of horses, camping, fishing, hockey, and building things. Most of all he shared his love. He loved his family beyond measure.
Wally was a dedicated community member serving on many volunteer boards and committees over the years. Most people who lived in Emerson know the name of Wally Empson. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Marlyn Empson (nee Remus), their children Shannon (Alan) McKenzie (grandchildren Zachary and Adelaide), Derek Empson (Kelly Young) (grandchildren Ridgely and Reese), Juliann (Logan) Salazar (grandchildren Georgia and McKinley), and Kristin Opocensky. He is also survived by his siblings Kelvin Empson, Diana Breckon, and Ronald (Maxine) Empson, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Kelvin and Lillian Empson, 1 sister and 3 brothers.
A celebration of Wally's life will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Emerson Complex.
Donations in memory of Wally may be made to Blue Sky Opportunities.
