Susie Klassen was born to Derk D. Klassen and Helena (nee Friesen), on October 19, 1920 in Rosenfeld, Manitoba. She was the third youngest child of a family of ten surviving children.
On September 22, 1942 she married the love of her life, Jake A. Klassen. They shared joys and sorrows for 71 years and 15 days.
They started life together in the New Hope District, where they were into grain farming and had the usual farm animals as well. All of this was too much for Jake’s asthma so they moved to Altona in about 1953. There Susie and her sister Tina started the “Children’s Wear” store. A short time later Susie took on teaching Sunday School to the young children in church. Later she worked for many years in the local MacLeod’s store.
In all of these jobs she had so much joy in meeting the children. We, the nieces and nephews, and so many other children benefited from that great big smile whenever she saw them. Many people came to know her as “Tante Sus”.
Those left to cherish her memory are sister-in-law Nella Zacharias residing in New Bothwell, some cousins, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her last home was at the Gardens on Tenth. We want to sincerely thank the staff for their kind and loving care over the last five years.
She passed away on June 14, 2015 at the Altona Hospital after a 10 day stay.
The family would like to thank Dr. Winning and the nurses for their thoughtful care. A special thanks go out to Rev. Jake Krahn, Rev. Peter Bartel, pianists Corinna Klassen and Anne Friesen, as well as the song leaders, ushers, and people who served the lunch in a friendly and efficient way. We are grateful to Terry and Trevor from Wiebe’s Funeral Home for their skillful guidance through this difficult time.
Thank you for all the cards, gifts of food, phone calls, and visits, and for your thoughts and prayers at this time of loss. Blessings from the family.
