Sarah Driedger

Sarah Driedger (née Friesen) was born in Lowe Farm, Manitoba, to Jake and Elizabeth Friesen on December 12, 1942 and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, November 1, 2025. She was the second daughter, joining her sister Dora, with Betty arriving ten years later. From an early age, Sarah loved working alongside her dad—whether on the farm or helping with building projects. That time together grew into a lifelong passion for creating, renovating, and making things beautiful, whether in her home or garden.

Sarah’s first paying job was hoeing beets under the hot Manitoba sun, a task she faced without complaint.

At 17, she met the love of her life, Abe Driedger, and they were married on July 3. They began their life together in Altona, where they welcomed two children, Glenn and Jean. In 1966, they moved to a country property near MacGregor, where Sarah worked as a cook and waitress at the ESSO restaurant, learning to make the best butter tarts around. She later worked at Tarr’s Solo Store and the Lowcost Drug Store. No matter how busy she was, Sarah always found time to help on the farm and tend to her large vegetable and flower gardens.

Sarah loved flower gardening, crocheting, crafting, painting scenic pictures, and taking and editing photographs until they were just right. She adored birds and always had numerous feeders around her yard, delighting in caring for them.

Abe and Sarah loved picnics, adventures, and camping trips with friends. In 1977, they moved from the farm into town, and in 1981, returned to Altona. Abe began working for the school division, and Sarah joined DW Friesen’s. They enjoyed travelling south during the winters with Henry and Tina, creating cherished memories and lasting friendships.

Ken and Jean had the privilege of caring for Abe and Sarah for a full year in their home before their move to Eastview Care Home, where they both lived until their passing. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Eastview Place for the wonderful care, kindness, and friendship shown to Sarah.

Sarah was predeceased by her beloved husband, Abe, in March of this year, and by both of her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Glenn and Marge Driedger, and Jean and Ken Friesen; her grandchildren Londa and Stacey Heese; Melissa and Stephane Jolicoeur; Matt and Paula Plett; Jeremy and Stacy Driedger; Cassidy and Leighton Loeppky; and her great-grandchildren Joshua, Grayson, Reed, Kyla, Kaden, Hudson, Porter, Logan, Julie, Cody, Bayleigh, Peyton, Asher, Piper, Seraya, Renley and Jackson and great-great-grandchildren Brooks and Rori.

Sarah had a quiet but steadfast faith and loved her family deeply. She will be remembered for her kind words, her love of beauty, and her ability to see the glass as always half full—with enough to share.

Her gentle spirit and pleasant disposition will be truly missed.

Until we meet again.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Altona EMM Church with burial at the Rudnerweide Cemetery.
