We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Eva Ruth Klippenstein, at the age of 94. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 2, 2026, at Eastview Place in Altona.
Ruth was born May 9, 1931, to John and Helena Klippenstein in Neubergthal, Manitoba, where she grew up and attended the village school. It was there she met her sweetheart, John, whom she married in 1951. They settled in Winnipeg, where they worked hard, side-by-side, and raised their three children. They lived in and around Winnipeg for over 30 years before eventually coming full circle and returning to Neubergthal, where their journey had first begun.
After her husband passed, Ruth moved to a condo in Altona, where she enjoyed life for several years before later moving to the Manor (formerly Ebenezer). As her journey with Alzheimer’s progressed, Ruth transitioned to the Apartments for Supportive Living and eventually moved into Eastview Place. There, she was looked after with exceptional kindness and support.
Ruth was a wonderful person who always had a smile and truly enjoyed every day of life. She was skilled in so many crafts, including sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting, and embroidery—and she could darn a sock like no other! Her kitchen was always a place of warmth; she baked the best bread, buns, rollkuchen, cookies, and so much more. She will be missed so very much.
Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, John; her son, Murray John; her sister, Kathy; her parents, John and Helena Klippenstein; her parents-in-law, John and Henrietta Klippenstein; her brothers-in-law Ernie (Anne), Martin (Anne), Victor (Esther), and Rex; and her dear friend, Pete.
She leaves to mourn her children, Judy (Ron) and Wayne (Paula); her sister-in-law, Helen; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Angela), Laura (Tim), Dan (Heidi), Dylan (Ashley), Cody, and Brendan; and her great-grandchildren, Brooke, Zoe, Connor, Logan, Felix, and Solène.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Eastview Place for the care and comfort they provided Ruth right up until the end.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Altona Mennonite Church. Interment will take place at the Neubergthal Cemetery.
