Ronald Alvin Miller, aged 80, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at his residence in Altona, Manitoba.
Ron was dearly loved and fondly remembered by his children Rhonda (Ed), Sean (Doris), Kevin (Breanne “Bre”), and Lyndon (Danica); his granddaughter Sandra (Gregory); his step-grandchildren Grayson, Malakai, and Noah; and his sisters Barbara and Sheila. He was predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Katherine Miller (née Bitz), and by his brothers Reginald, Marvin, and Raymond.
Ron overcame a challenging upbringing with determination, faith, and resilience—qualities that shaped his generous spirit and steady, thoughtful approach to life. He carried no bitterness from hardship and lived with kindness, forgiveness, and quiet strength.
A man of sincere Christian faith, Ron was introverted by nature but never hesitant to speak about his belief in God when the topic arose. His faith guided him throughout his life and sustained him through a remarkable recovery from stage 4 cancer later in life. On one occasion, when speaking about that recovery with his son Sean, Ron unfolded a piece of paper given to him by his daughter in law, Doris, with Bible verses on it and confidently stated, “By His (Jesus’) stripes, I am healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
Guided by curiosity, ingenuity, and an entrepreneurial spirit, Ron was a natural problem-solver. He owned and operated a sewing factory, RAM Fashions, in Steinbach, where his practical mindset and hands-on approach were evident every day. Later in life, he founded Miller Original Products, continuing to pursue practical ideas and inventive solutions driven by necessity, curiosity, and a desire to make things work better. One summer, after being encouraged to buy a bicycle for exercise, Ron bought one and promptly engineered a lighting system that included headlights, tail lights, and front and rear blinkers powered by an attached generator and battery pack. Although he only rode the bike once, it was evident that lasting satisfaction came from the fully functional light mod.
Despite having little at times, Ron was extraordinarily generous. He showed his love through thoughtful, quirky and practical gifts, and gadgets, that included gaming systems he would also use. Often, quality time meant playing The Legend of Zelda on the original NES with an enthusiasm that often resulted in his kids begging or wrestling him for a turn.
Ron was a hands-on father who enjoyed teaching by example. Whether working on construction or home renovation projects, car engines, figuring out complex computer programs, or fishing with his boys —he was always willing to take the time to show how something was done.
Although physical fitness was a focus in his younger years, Ron retained a quiet strength and endurance that often surprised people. At age 65, during a trip to Hawaii with Kevin and his family, Ron made it to the top of Diamond Head while many much younger hikers stopped to rest or turn back.
A gamer and movie buff to the very end, Ron maintained a DVD collection large enough to fill several shelving units that he painstakingly alphabetized by genre and movie title.
Above all, Ron will be remembered for his enormous heart, his steadfast faith, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. He lived gently, gave generously, and left people better than he found them.
Family and friends are invited to share memories, reflections, and expressions of sympathy in remembrance of Ron.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
