Raymond John Wahl passed away peacefully at home in Winnipeg on March 29, 2026 at the age of 81 years. Raymond was predeceased by parents John and Anna Wahl, brother in laws John Rumple and Victor Millership and niece Jaye Jackson. Raymond is lovingly remembered by his wife Marian (nee Hildebrand) children Tammera (Andy), Michael, Andrew (Renee) Rachel (Alex). Grandchildren Drew, Laura and Kayla, Marcus and Jayden, Tanisha, Donovan, Isaiah, Lanaya and Anna and great grandchildren Lincoln and Amelia. Siblings Marion (John), Eileen (Pete), Leonard (Edna), Dennis (Renee) and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Raymond was born July 23, 1944 in the Altona Hospital, Manitoba to John and Anna Wahl. Through Raymonds early years he spent time tending the farm with his dad, attended the farmhouse school and was a member of the 4H club where he proudly won a trophy for his prized bull. But this tough young man was a mama’s boy at heart, Anna made sure Rays hair was properly combed before a date with Marian by combing it herself. She must have done a good job as Ray married Marian on August 28, 1964.
Ray was a skilled jack of all trades. Farmer, investigator, theologian, minister, blacksmith, carpenter, mechanic, gardener, historian, welder, and Kielke maker. His garage was his sanctuary and social club where many coffee visits with friends and neighbors took place. He kept his garage meticulous. Every tool had a story and every piece of scrap metal a purpose. He loved coming up with new projects in his garage. Fixing old engines, designing golf bag stands, fixing neighbors equipment, you name it, Ray was the guy for the job. He believed in doing honest work, working hard and doing a job well, not just “good enough”. Although an educated man, fancy degrees and big words did not impress him. Honesty, humbleness and content of a person’s character is what mattered.
What Ray will truly be remembered for is the difference he made. His unwavering love for Marian, the love of his life, and the love he had for his family who he cherished and the numerous special friends in his life throughout the years. He made time for his family. Road trips, vacations, volunteering, attending church with the regular after church lunches, driving the grandkids to school, helping with homework, teaching everyone to drive, our comforter when we were sad or scared, and our defender when someone tried to do us wrong. He gave his family a loving, safe, Christian home for us to grow and flourish in.
Raymonds cancer journey began in 1989 spanning 37 years, Cancer was a big a part of his life through numerous operations, treatments, cancer care visits, lifestyle changes, regular testing and CT’s. His strength and resilience was a true inspiration. Known by doctors and his family as the “Miracle Man” and “Miracle Patient” facing all obstacles with limitless resilience. Operation after operation he beat the odds every time. It could have been his stubbornness or his unwavering faith in God, but either way he was determined to have a lifetime with us and he succeeded, for which we are truly grateful. `
The family would like to express their upmost gratitude to Dr. Darrel Drachenberg. He fought Rays cancer beside us for over three decades. The family also wishes to share their sincere appreciation to the whole team at Cancer Care Manitoba. The love and support we have felt from everyone involved will not be forgotten.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Altona Mennonite Church. A private family interment will take place at the Altona Cemetery prior to the service.
