Peter Friesen 

January 15, 1944 – August 7, 2025

Peter Friesen, age 81, of Altona, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Altona Hospital.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Susan; his daughter Jeannette (Jerrold) Wiebe; sons Bruce (Eva) Friesen, Richard (Martha) Friesen, and Cameron Friesen; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as three sisters and one brother. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter.

Peter was born on January 15, 1944, at the Morris Hospital, along with his twin brother, Henry. He spent his youth in the village of Neuhorst, where he attended school.

In the summer of 1962, Peter met the love of his life, Susan. They were married on June 16, 1963, and he was baptized later that fall. The young couple began their life together in Winnipeg, where Peter worked at Carter Motors. However, missing family and rural life, they soon relocated to Rosenfeld. In 1964, they settled in Gretna, where Peter began working at the Gretna Co-op. It was here they raised their four children and built a life grounded in faith, hard work, and community.

After nearly three decades at the Co-op, Peter retired in 1992 to start his own business, Pete’s Home Repair. Known for his reliability and craftsmanship, he served many local families with care and integrity. In 2007, Peter and Susan moved to Altona to enjoy their retirement years.

Peter was a man of quiet faith. A kind and gentle devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had a deep love for camping and travel—especially when it meant spending time with family. Whether around a campfire, on the open road, or simply gathered at home, his happiest moments were those shared with the people he loved. Peter enjoyed watching sports on TV . Most sports would do, but Hockey was definitely at the top of the list

Peter’s legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Altona hospital for the tremendous care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday August 10, 2025 at 2:00 pm. at the South Park MB Church in Altona. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona on Saturday August 9 from 1:00 - 6:30 pm and at the church prior to the service.
