Norma Enns

Norma Esther Enns of Altona, passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2025 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years Edgar, and will be lovingly remembered by son James (Laurie) and their children Erika (husband Joshua and daughters Freya & Sigrun); Cael (wife Brittani Enns and children Alice, Christian, Amelia & Sophia); and Meredith (husband Aaron Seager and their children Luca and Rosie) and by son Brian (Delores) and their children Kate (husband Codey Allum and sons Winston & Edward) and Faith Enns.

Norma was born on February 19, 1940 to John and Helena Dueck (nee Dyck) of Blumenfeld, MB. She was the oldest of their three daughters, and was predeceased by her sister Alvina Derksen on August 19th, 2025 and is survived by her youngest sister Linda Wieler. Norma grew up in Blumenfeld and has shared fond memories of playing with cousins in the village.

On August 20, 1962 Norma married Edgar Enns who was also from the Blumenfeld area. Initially they made their home in Rosenfeld, then shortly after their sons were born, they moved to Altona. Norma was an amazing homemaker, using her gifts of cooking, gardening and sewing to nurture and provide comfort for her family. From the mid 70’s until the early 80’s Norma and her friend Marie Schmidt operated Capri Clothing, a women’s fashion store in the Altona Mall. The last job that Norma held outside of home was that of cooking for the Manor and Units at what was then the Ebenezer Home. When the grandchildren came along Norma continued to use her cooking and sewing and needlework skills to treat the family to excellent meals and hand-made outfits.

Norma and Edgar enjoyed travelling; sometimes via motorcycle or snowmobile with friends and family. Highlights were the trips they made to Europe, visiting with friends, many of whom they also hosted in Altona and at their cottage at Buffalo Point. Cherished memories were made at the cottage, with family and friends who came to visit, and many new friends were met during the time they spent there. When Edgar passed suddenly on December 28, 2024 while at Buffalo Point, Mom wondered if she would continue to spend time there, and thankfully she made many more trips to the cottage with family and friends.

Norma moved to The Gardens on Tenth in Altona when it opened and enjoyed living there for 10 years. This past summer she was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer which led Mom to make the decision to move from her suite in the Gardens to the Gardens on Tenth Apartments. She spent her last month in hospital, first in Morris and then in Altona. Mom had a strong and unwavering faith in God and shared her hopes that we would praise God and be kind to each other.

We are very grateful for the care she received at Gardens on Tenth Apartments, the Morris Hospital and the Altona Hospital. Special thanks to Palliative Care Nurse Kathryn Knutt Heppner for her guidance in navigating this journey.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church. A private burial will take place prior to the service. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona on Friday, January 9 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
