Nettie (Aganetha) Doerksen (nee Rempel)

June 25, 1928 – June 11, 2018

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Nettie Doerksen, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the age of 89 years old.

She was predeceased by her husband Peter D. Doerksen, and a granddaughter Lyndsey Doerksen.

Mom was born on June 25, 1928 to Aganetha Sawatzky and Jacob G. Rempel, and was raised in Edenthal. She was baptized upon her confession of faith in the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church. She married Peter Doerksen on October 16, 1947. They farmed and raised their family in the Village of Sommerfeld until they retired in 1986 when they moved to the Town of Altona.

Throughout the years on the farm, mom had a passion for sewing, gardening, and baking. After moving to Altona, she redirected her energies to volunteering at the Altona MCC, playing cards with friends, going for coffee with her sisters, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She leaves to mourn her children: son Larry & wife Gayle, son Dennis & wife Yvonne, son Al & wife Diane, son Ron, son Tim & wife Michelle, and daughter Darlene & husband Jake; Grandchildren: Trevor, Chris, Richard, Melissa & husband Tim, Katie & husband Jamie, Joey & Ashley, Jessica & Neil, Stephanie, Laura, Justin & Cassandra, and Matthew; Great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Nicholas, Benjamin, and Charlotte. She is survived by brother-in-law Henry Wiebe, sister-in-law Mary Voth, and a large extended family.

The family wishes to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to all our relatives, friends, and neighbours for the prayers, words of encouragement, flowers, food, visits, and phone calls. We would like to thank the nursing staff of Eastview Personal Care Home for the wonderful care they provided to mom and the family. We would also like to thank Maria Nickel and the volunteers of the Altona Palliative Care Program for assisting the family in the final weeks of mom’s life. Many thanks to the Wiebe Funeral Home of Altona and Deacon Jim Sawatzky.

Funeral service is to be held at the Sommerfelder Mennonite Church in Altona on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00am. Private burial will be held prior to service.

In memory of Nettie Doerksen, donations can be made to the Altona Palliative Care Program.
