Maurita was born January 3rd, 1966, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She died peacefully and quietly on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019, at Boundary Trails Health Center from complications due to breast cancer. She was 53.
Maurita’s kindness, humility, and giving nature were a blessing to her immediate family, her faith family, and many in the surrounding community. Maurita was generous in using her time and energy for others, especially in the care of her parents. She was a fun and loving Aunt who took an interest in the lives of her nieces and nephews, and was a loyal friend to many others who knew her.
Maurita liked playing the piano, enjoyed travelling, good wordplay, and the company of a cat whenever she could. She also enjoyed good food and loved cooking it. What she enjoyed the most, though, was gardening. She was a Master Gardener who loved to get her hands dirty, learn about new plants, plan her gardens, and keep them growing beautifully. Accordingly, in that same spirit, she lived her life quietly planting good deeds in service to others around her and watching over them.
She is survived by her parents, Ken and Carolyn Harman of Altona, MB, brother Paul (Debbie Arendt) Harman (niece Montana and nephew Zak), brother David (Gwen) Harman and five nieces and nephews (Madelyn, Evan, Nathan, Molly, Logan), and her sister Anita Reeb (Will). Maurita was pre-deceased by her brother-in-law, Will Reeb, in October 2018.
Maurita was a loyal, long-time employee of Friesens in Altona. We are sincerely grateful to the staff and management of Friesens for the sympathy, generosity, and honor they have shown Maurita during the last few years as she struggled with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maurita’s name to Katie’s Cottage or the Boundary Trails Health Center Foundation (please indicate CancerCare in the memo field). The family would like to sincerely thank both organizations for their thoughtful, diligent, and tender care of Maurita throughout her last days.
Burial will be in the Altona Cemetery on Friday, April 19th, 2019, with a short service for invited friends and family only. A memorial of Maurita’s life will be held on Friday, April 26th, 2019 at 4:00pm at the Rhineland Pioneer Center in Altona, a light lunch will follow – all are welcome.
