Margaret Friesen

Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, and Friend

Margaret Friesen nee Falk was born on April 26, 1938 to Aron and Helena Falk in Altona and had 1 sister and 2 brothers. She was blessed to reach the age of 87 years 7 months and 1 day.

Mom grew up on a small farm just one mile east of Altona. Later they moved to Reinland and at the age of 11 she moved to Paraguay with her family. There were many hard times in Paraguay like starting a new yard and making new friends. They stayed there for only a year then they moved back and lived in Schoenthal and the Graysville area. When Mom was 16 she became a nanny for a lady with 2 girls. She also cleaned and cooked for them.

Mom was baptized in the Stephenfield Sommerfeld Church at the age of 20. Mom met Jacob L Friesen in 1959 at the Winkler hospital where she worked. They were married on September 18, 1960 in the Kronsweide church near Lowe Farm. They were married for 59 years. Together they raised their 3 sons on the farm where they faithfully worked together, loving and raising their family, tending to the fields and the animals. She was a very hard worker who loved cooking, canning, gardening, and scrapbooking in the later years. She had a green thumb. With 3 boys, life was busy, but Mom still milked cows and took care of 200 chickens.

Together Mom and Dad did a lot of traveling, not just for enjoyment but also for missions. They traveled to places like British Columbia, Paraguay, Ecuador, a tour of Europe and Mexico, Ukraine, Florida and Switzerland, to name a few. One special souvenir was an orchid picked in Ecuador by Dad, that she saved and dried.

Mom and Dad retired from farming in 2004 and moved to Altona. They spent many years volunteering at the MCC in Altona. They were also part of many singing groups, like the Sommerfeld Mass Choir and the Goodwill singers, bringing the message of God’s love. It was always a proud moment to hear the family sing together praising the Lord. Mom loved our family very much and showed that by baking special desserts and cooking amazing meals.

Dad went to be with the Lord on June 27, 2020 and left Mom and the family with a deep loss. Mom continued living in their retirement house in Altona for another year. Then she moved into the Buffalo apartments in 2021 and lived there for 4 years. She enjoyed all the visits she received from friends and family. She especially enjoyed one on one visits with her grandchildren.

Mom was diagnosed with cancer in October of this year and on October 24 she was admitted into Altona Hospital. She had a very positive attitude and never complained about being at the hospital, also saying how she could still do things for herself.

After a short battle with cancer Margaret Friesen peacefully went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday November 27, 2025 at 10:39 pm. She lived a full life filled with love and joy. We as a family will miss Mom but praise the Lord for being faithful and having a mansion ready and waiting for her.

Mom leaves to mourn her children, son David and Jacqueline, grandchildren Crystal and Andy Unger, great grandchildren Noah, Joseph, and Riley, grandchildren Angela and Jesse Sawatzky, great grandchildren Hailey, Hannah, and Jenna, grandchildren Jessica and Jon Loch, great grandchildren, David and Shane; son Leonard and Wendy, grandchildren Corey, Amanda and Darcy Martens, Jennifer, Bradley and Amanda; son Don and Susanne, grandchildren Jayda, Moriah, Gabriel, Chloe, Seth, Joshua. As well as sister Gertrude Hiebert, brother Jake Falk and sister in law Betty Hiebert. She was predeceased by her parents Aron and Helena Falk, Dad, Henry Falk and his first wife Tina and sister in law Elaine Falk.

The family would like to thank God for giving us a wonderful godly Mom, Grandma, and great grandma. She never failed to say how thankful she was to Him.

Anna Froese and Susan Stoesz for bringing mom the church cd’s and for all their visits.

To all of the many friends that visited Mom in her apartment and hospital. Your visits were very much appreciated and she cherished each one of you.

To the Altona Hospital and staff for the wonderful care that was given to her in the last month and three days she was on this earth.

To the Altona ladies group for the serving of the meal.

To Carol Krahn for playing the piano for the service.

To Rev. Terry and Becky Toews for the kind and compassionate visit we had setting up the service and for leading the singing and doing the message.

Last but not least Trevor Groening and the Wiebe’s Funeral Home of Altona for the kind, compassionate and understanding care that was given to us, the family, in preparing our last act of love that we could give to our Mom.

May the Lord richly bless each one of you for your service.
