Henry Buhler Jr, age 79, of Altona, Manitoba, passed away on Sunday February 8, 2026 at the Altona Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife Louise (nee Fast), son Cameron (Lorna), daughter Pamela (Jim), 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Henry Sr and Annie, 2 brothers and 1 nephew.
Henry started working for the Province of Manitoba Natural Resources Department in the early 1960s until his first retirement in 2001. He got bored so he went back to working for the provincial government from 2002 until his final retirement in 2012. He worked in multiple floods including 1979, 1997 and 2011. Henry enjoyed his work and the people he dealt with everyday, this was another reason why he went back to work after his first retirement. He had a love for new vehicles, always trading his “old” one at least once per year. What Henry loved more than anything was his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. They always brought him joy every time they visited.
Special thanks to the staff at the Altona Hospital for their compassion and care of Dad. Thanks to his coffee shop friends (you know who you are!), Dad’s coffeetime with you was always the highlight of his day. To his sister Tena and husband Al, thanks for all your assistance with Dad’s care and being there for him. To his friends and family who reached out with words of encouragement, be it a phone call or a text, offering rides to appointments, fixing his glasses or bringing a burger when he was craving it, he appreciated it more than you know. And a big thank you to Allan and Anita Kehler for their spiritual guidance and friendship during this difficult time, the family is very grateful for you.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
