Heinrich Wiebe

Dietrich "Doc" Owen Carter, also known as Heinrich Matthäus Wiebe, 52, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, formerly of Lansdale, Pennsylvania; Boca Raton and Venice, Florida; and Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at his residence.

Born in Hollywood, California, Doc was the son of the late Heinrich Wiebe, also known as Delbert Carter and Sheila Darlene (Smith) Carter Schiedel of Harleysville, Pennsylvania.

He was a 1992 graduate of North Penn High School, where he was remembered as a homecoming hero and an accomplished athlete, playing both basketball and football. Following high school, he attended Valley Forge Christian College and Arizona State University.

Doc lived a life marked by creativity, curiosity, compassion, and faith. A gifted singer-songwriter and musician, he found great joy in writing, composing, and performing music. An accomplished guitarist and drummer, music was both his passion and his ministry.

Throughout his life, Doc worked in a variety of trades, including construction, truck driving, carpentry, manufacturing farm equipment, and as a chef. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and strangers alike—a true reflection of his generous heart.

A lifelong learner, Doc possessed an extraordinary love of language and Scripture. He studied linguistics including Spanish, Greek, and Hebrew, even teaching himself to speak and sing Spanish fluently. He delighted in exploring the meanings of words, studying biblical exegesis, and pursuing knowledge with enthusiasm. An avid researcher, he enjoyed examining unconventional ideas, encouraging thoughtful conversation, and inspiring others to consider different perspectives.

His Christian faith was the foundation of his life. He faithfully read the Bible and was known for his compassion toward the brokenhearted and downtrodden. He sought to encourage others, lead with kindness, and follow wherever he believed God was calling him.

Doc was also an enthusiastic cook, an avid reader, and a devoted Philadelphia sports fan whose spirited "Go Birds!" was well known among family and friends. He held a special affection for Villanova University’s Wildcats basketball team, despite never attending, and remained a loyal admirer throughout his life. A true nomad at heart, he embraced new places and experiences while forming lasting friendships wherever he went. He was honored to serve as best man in several close friends' weddings, a testament to the loyalty and trust he inspired.

Known for his quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor, Doc had an infectious personality that drew people in. He was a man of fierce loyalty and undeniable presence. He was genuine, compassionate, deeply sociable, and made friends wherever life took him. He was an encourager, a man of deep conviction, and someone who was never afraid to show tender emotions. Those who knew him will remember his profound heart that loved without reservation and his unwavering faith in the Word of God.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his four children: Ryan Michael Kurtz and his wife, Breanna, of Myakka City, Florida; Maslin Rae Kurtz of Myakka City, Florida; Wesley Owen Kurtz of Myakka City, Florida; and Elias Whitfield Kurtz of Myakka City, Florida; his beloved grandson, Nolan Michael Kurtz of Myakka City, Florida; his three sisters, Abbe Rae Fahem of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, Julie Anna Carter of Sellersville, Pennsylvania, and Lucy Alison Derstine of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; his nephew, Aidan Michael Derstine of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; his former brothers-in-law, Steve Abdenour Fahem of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, and Michael Scot Derstine of Sellersville, Pennsylvania; and numerous cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to his father, Doc was preceded in death by his stepfather, Matthew Daniel Schiedel, and his niece, Callahan Mae Derstine.

A viewing in Canada will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 10:30 am – 11:00 at Peace Valley Mennonite Church, 213 Main Avenue, Plum Coulee, Manitoba, R0G 1R0, Canada, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.

Another viewing will be held in the United States on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Salford Mennonite Church, 480 Groff's Mill Road, Harleysville, Pennsylvania 19438, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, at a later date.
