Edmund Heinrichs

Edmund David Heinrichs was born in the Altona Hospital on January 13, 1940. He was the first born child of Erdman and Susan (Thiessen) Heinrichs of Halbstadt, Manitoba. Edmund was baptized in the EMM Church in Neubergthal on May 26, 1958. He died on February 4, 2026 at the age of 86.

Edmund was predeceased by his parents Erdman and Susan Heinrichs, an infant sister Ruth, a sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Bernie Dyck, a brother Ron, a nephew Jerold Dyck, a nephew Eric Woodland, a niece Gloria (Dyck) Miller and brother-in-law Jac Fehr. He leaves behind two brothers: John in Winkler, MB, and Bernie in Altona, MB, and sisters Judy Fehr in Sherwood Park, AB, Edie Heinrichs in Mission, BC, Susan and Brian Mills in Winnipeg, MB and a sister-in-law Rose Heinrichs in Halbstadt, MB, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ed was a farmer for most of his life. He worked for a farmer, and then started renting land and finally purchased the J. T. Heinrichs farm and his parents’ farm, the Erdman and Susan Heinrichs homestead. He told us, “I love farming.” At one time, he was farming about 400 acres with relatively small equipment. All of his three brothers helped him out from time to time. At age 67, he gave up farming and rented his land to father and son Orlando and Nathan Friesen. He kept living on his farm yard along the Post Road in Halbstadt, MB.

Ed was a character. He took an active part in his community. While helping with the flood efforts one spring, he had grown a beard, and he became known as Moses or Mosie, a name that many called him to this day.

For many years, his home was a meeting place for his friends. In the early years, Ed liked to have barbecues at his home. In later years, friends came for morning coffee and a game of cards or dice.

The family would like to thank all the friends that visited Ed or just stopped by to say ‘hello’ while he was in care.

The family would like to thank Dr. Abbas Darwish for his care. They would also like to thank staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre in Winkler, MB, the Eastview Care Home in Altona MB, the Resthaven Care Home in Steinbach, MB and the Vita Personal Care Home in Vita, MB
