Ed Dueck

Ed Dueck, age 81 of Altona, MB passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Eastview Place. His family was by his side as he took his final breaths.

Ed was born on July 25, 1944 at his home in Rosenheim near Plum Coulee, MB to his parents, Tina and Peter Dueck.

Ed was baptized on the confession of his faith at the Sommerfeld Church in 1967.

He met and married Susan Toews from the New Hope area on July 14, 1968. They lived in the Plum Coulee for a short while then moved to a small house in Altona. They then moved to their home that they raised their family in on 1st Street. They were married for 57 years.

They celebrated the birth of their first child Patty in 1969. Soon after they had their son Sheldon, and their daughter Candace.

Ed worked in a mechanic‘s garage while his brother Aron. He also worked as a heavy machine operator and helped build “Duff Ditch”, now known as the Winnipeg floodway. Then he started working at Bunge and worked there for 29 1/2 years. He was very proud that if they needed a part, he could go make it.

Ed loved gardening and was always proud of his tomatoes, cucumbers, and radishes. He also loved sharing his bounty with his kids.

He helped his children whenever they needed it. Whether fixing up their homes, building fences and adding additions he was always there to help.

Ed was a man of faith and he found strength in it, especially in the past years as his Alzheimer’s slowly progressed. Five months ago he went blind and this was very hard for him, but his faith endured. He still liked to make us laugh. We would say “nice to see you dad” and he would reply “nice to almost see you” or “nice not to see you”, and we would laugh. He was ready to go to Heaven, and now he is happy and at peace.

Ed is survived by his wife, Susan, and children, daughter Patty Penner, son Sheldon (Char) Dueck, and daughter Candace Enns.
