Beverley Berrington

  1. It is with heavy hearts that the Berrington family announce the peaceful passing of Beverley William Berrington on April 4, 2026 at the age of 84.

  2. Bev grew up in Inglis, Manitoba, the second son of Len and Bertha Berrington. He grew up with his siblings Cyril, Iris, Rod and Josie and attended school there before pursuing a career in hockey.

  3. He left for Flin Flon where he played for the Flin Flon Bombers while working for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. From there, he decided to return to school. While at Teachers College he met two Dominion City boys, Ed Thom and Al Braemer, who coaxed him to play hockey for the DC Flyers. Lorne Ramsey, General Manager of the team at the time, was on the school board. Bev accepted a job at the Dominion City School, starting out in elementary school and then moved up to high school where he excelled. He loved his career as a teacher and served also as a Vice Principal, Principal, and sports coach during his 36 years of teaching. He gained so much respect from his students and was told regularly that he was the best teacher they ever had.

  4. This handsome guy also won the heart of a local girl, Shirley Boutet. They married in 1965, and raised their family of 3, Darcy (Eun Young), Damon (Debbie), and Deidre (James). He was a devoted father, coach, and teacher to them.

  5. Bev loved Dominion City. He introduced fastball there, and his team, “The DC Flyers”, went on to win many tournaments throughout the southeast. He was pitcher and coach for the team. He also coached hockey teams both junior and senior levels.

  6. He was chair of the DC United Church Board for many years and a regular attendee.

  7. He was an integral part of the DC Elks in their early years, serving as Exalted Ruler twice.

  8. Bev’s love for sports and community inspired him to organize a ’Trek for Rec‘ where he biked from Flin Flon to Dominion City to raise money for recreation projects in town. The town rallied behind him and threw a party to welcome him home.

  9. He served on the DC Curling Club executive for many years, pushing for and eventually getting artificial ice installed. He curled with many different players throughout the years enjoying bonspiels with both family and close friends.

  10. He became involved in local politics, serving as both councilor and reeve for the RM of Franklin. He served on and chaired many boards during his time in office and beyond, including The Red River Rec., Triple R Community Futures Board, DC Village Committee, Franklin Community Development Corporation and the Sturgeon Community Foundation. He was part of the Roseau Crossing Heritage Park Board helping develop the park and start the campground from its fledgling beginnings.

  11. Bev was a loving grandpa to Liam, Stacey (Jackie), Silas (Dominique), Angela (Maxwell), Judah and Hannah and great grandson Jensen.

  12. Bev led a very full life. He remained a loving and caring husband for over 60 years even as his health was failing.

  13. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sturgeon Community Foundation or the Dominion City United Church.

  14. God bless you Bev until we meet again.

  15. Service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dominion City Community Hall.

  16. Thank you to the staff at Boundary Trails Hospital for the excellent care.
