Alan Monaghan

Alan Keith Monaghan, 69, of Emerson, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, after a brave and courageous battle with illness.

Alan was born on April 23, 1957, in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

Alan was the beloved husband and best friend of Michelle Kinney (Barnes), with whom he shared 13 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He was also a proud and loving "Pa" to Madison Kinney-Clarke (Joseph) and Carrington Kinney-Davalos (Chance), who brought him endless joy.

Alan and Michelle's story began in 2007 through long-distance communication that quickly blossomed into a deep friendship and, eventually, a lifelong love. Alan traveled to Oregon to meet Michelle in person, and their bond only grew stronger. In 2009, he invited Michelle to Quebec City to meet his family, where he proposed to her. She happily said "yes," and together they began the next chapter of their lives.

Alan will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, quiet wisdom, generous heart, and love of the outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time barbecuing for family and friends, creating lasting memories around the grill.

After many years of dedicated service, Alan retired from Scierie Mobile Gilbert in Quebec City in 2023.

Following his retirement, Alan and Michelle began planning a new chapter together in Huron, South Dakota, where they looked forward to being closer to Michelle's family and helping care for her father.

Alan found great joy serving alongside Michelle at Living Hope Alliance Church in Huron. He loved working with the youth group, helping organize activities, and faithfully picking up students for Sunday morning church services. His kindness, encouragement, and genuine care left a lasting impact on the lives of many young people.

Alan is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Brian Monaghan (Grace), Linda Fagay (Barry), and Shirley Laliberté (Jean-Luc), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Gerald Monaghan and Rita May Walling Monaghan; and by his siblings, Gary Monaghan and Gail Monaghan.

A Celebration of Alan's Life will be held at a later date.
